With the recent launch of HUSTLER vodka, we decided to put together a recipe that not only showcases this new spirit, but also reflects the personality of the man that created the HUSTLER empire: Larry Flynt.
A firebrand if there ever was one, Flynt may be best known for his – ahem – rather racy publications, but comfortable wealthy from them he’s become a staunch defender of constitutional issues in the courts. In other words, if there’s going to be a cocktail inspired by him, it’s gonna be a Mule that KICKS.
Recipe (Makes 2 Mules)
– 4 ounces vodka
– 8 ounces ginger beer (Ginger ale? No sir)
– 1 jalapeno
– Fresh Ginger
– 8 sprigs fresh mint leaves
– 2 ounces fresh lime juice
Cut the jalapeno in half lengthwise, remove the seeds and stem and discard. Slice the jalapeno lengthwise into 4 sections and place in a cocktail shaker, along with the mint leaves. Grate some ginger – a half a teaspoon will do – and add it to the shaker. Muddle until the jalapeno juices are released and the mint and ginger are fragrant.
Add ice to the shaker, along with the lime juice and vodka. Cover and shake vigorously for about 15-30 seconds.
Fill your copper mugs with crushed ice, and pour the mixture over top. Top up each drink with ginger beer. Garnish with lime slice and sprig of mint.
Enjoy.
